As soon as you mention the word weddings the pound signs light up in the eyes! Right from the start of our plans to get married, we have been trying to avoid being ripped off. My anonymous Groom and I are not rich, and we don’t want to spend our wedding day pretending that we are, but the unscrupulous price increase that goes along with weddings is difficult to dodge. Having said that, we’re not afraid to spend money on the things we want, but what we want doesn’t have to cost the earth.
We aren’t looking for a traditional wedding in many ways. We don’t like all the faff of having to rearrange the tables, or the formalities of a sit down meal and first dance. We just want to have a fun and relaxed day with our nearest and dearest.
And so we’ve come up with a plan to do away with all the usual kerfuffle, and stripped things back to what we want to do. We’re looking at a summer wedding with a village fete` style reception in a village hall, for which we will build our own games, make our own decorations, and provide our own entertainment. We also plan to take a trip to a farm, after our wedding ceremony at the local registry office.
There is one more twist in this. Our wedding is a secret wedding, and only a hand full of people so far know that it is going to happen. Other guests won't be told until they are invited. It will be an exciting day full of surprises, and I can’t wait to get started on things!
