First Wedding Item Purchased

I have bought my first wedding related item. It is… a vintage cake slice for £1! You might think that I’ve bought it for my wedding cake, but I won’t be having a wedding cake as such. Instead, we plan to have lots of cakes as part of our village fete theme, and therefore need lots of cake slices, so this will be the first of many.

We thought it would be a lovely addition to the day to ask guests to bring a cake with them if they wish to, and these will be available for everyone to tuck in to.

For food, instead of a wedding breakfast, we’re planning to give people a “picnic”. We’ll buy trays of readymade sandwiches ready to serve, and also brings crisps, scotch eggs, pork pies, fruit and scones. This should be a really nice, informal way of us all eating together with very little food preparation.

As well as bringing cakes, we are also planning to provide guests with sunflower seeds and encourage them to take part in a sunflower growing competition. Sunflowers will be judged on the diameter of the centre of the flower. The sunflowers will help add a floral, colourful touch to the reception venue, and will add to the village fete and community spirit of the day.

So I’ll be continuing to scour charity shops for more bargain cake slices and maybe even some picnic baskets to dress the food with.
