Dress Fittings

Since Christmas I’ve had two dress fittings and my dress is now fully altered and complete. It fits comfortably, although it's a bit tight, so I’ve been cutting down to get my waist back down a dress size after all the Christmas cheese I ate. Because it’s a vintage dress, the waist it small, and there is little that can be done about it, so I just need to stop being so lazy and get slimming a tad.

The work has been carried out by Ruffles and Lace, a dressmaker based at Abbeydale Road, Sheffield, who specialise in vintage styles.

I’m totally thrilled with how the dress looks now. The skirt has been made a little shorter, so that it's now a tea length skirt. The sleeves have also been made short, and the back is open. It looks like the perfect 1950’s prom style dress. Of course, I can’t show photos of the finished dress just yet, but here’s a sneaky look at the skirt from behind while still a work in progress.
