The Dress

I did something I wasn’t planning on doing yet yesterday… I bought my wedding dress!
I’ve been a bit unsure about exactly what I want, because I’m not a very wedding dress kind of person. I wear dresses ever day of my life, and love vintage style, but the dresses I’ve been looking at online and in magazines just aren’t me. So I was planning to have a dress made for me in white broderie anglaise, until yesterday that is.
I was out doing some vintage shopping with friends in Matlock when we saw a beautiful 1950’s wedding dress on a mannequin. My friends know that I am engaged but didn’t know that I’m currently planning a wedding. They were saying how gorgeous it was and how much it would suit me, and I was thinking the same thing. Then other people in the shop joined in and the shop keeper said that she would love to know that someone got married in the dress.
I decided to try it on, and the whole shop came to have a look. It’s a bit too small, so the zip wouldn’t go over my waist, but someone suggested that it could be altered by a dress maker, something I hadn’t really considered. Everyone loved it though, and said the colour really suits me.
The colours are gorgeous. Its creamy, beige coloured lace, and cream and lavender coloured beads are perfect for our wedding colour scheme. It’s totally different and much more grown up than the sort of thing I was thinking about. It looks handmade and is covered in handstitched beads, pearls and sequins, and it cost just £90!

Detail on dress
When I let my friends in on the secret that we are planning our wedding for next summer, they clubbed together and paid over half of the cost, which just makes it more special.
I’m going to find someone who can make some alterations to it. I’d like the skirt a little shorter to show a bit of leg, and maybe the sleeves and neckline altering. Hopefully the fabric taken from the bottom will mean that it can be made to fit around my waist. In spite of these tweaks though, I’ve found the perfect dress.
